British luxury car maker Rolls-Royce unveiled their upgraded Phantom series II. The Phantom Sedan, Phantom Drophead Coupe, and Phantom Coupe have all been updated with new technologies to make this the ultimate luxury ride.
Externally it’s really more of a teak than an aesthetic overhaul. A new front-end design with re-styled bumpers and new rectangular LED lights. The shape is unmistakably Rolls-Royce Phantom but the lines are ever so softer, it still symbolises power and wealth. It’s still a heavy machine but improved transmission and more intuitive driving mean it’s easier to handle.
Not that you’d notice if you owned one of these cars, because if you did, you would probably never drive it. It’s not a car to drive, but to be driven in. Long been the automotive choice of politicos, despots, billionaires and moguls, the Rolls-Royce Phantom is the kind of car that you don’t want to get out of. The interior is the height of luxury and stepping out of this tranquil leather-seated, walnut-fitted sanctum onto say dirty London streets must be quite the come-down.
Saying that though, Rolls-Royce have never done things by halves and the new series is equipped to make Jeeves’ life that little bit easier while driving ‘Sir’ to his very important lunches. The state-of-the-art 3D satnav system on a whopping 25 cm screen means he’ll will never have to consult a map again and there’s a 360 degree camera system for guiding this whale of a car into those hard-to-fit in spaces at the supermarket. If anything your personal chauffeur will be sweating for his job because if Rolls-Royce upgrade this any more it will drive itself.
A Harman Kardon stereo system is ear-bleedingly load so you can make the neighbourhood shake by pumping out the Mozart, or just turn it off and enjoy the near silence of the engine that is truly remarkable for such a beast of a vehicle. The differences in this upgrade are subtle and it remains true to its roots. The Rolls-Royce Phantom II is simply one of the finest cars in the world, you could govern a nation from the back seat of this car.
