Memolane is still in beta stage. I tried to sign up and noticed that some functionalities are still not working properly, the platform needs some bug fixing and adjustments so this nevertheless cool online website is still at a development stage.
First of all let me explain what Memolane is. It is an online posts aggregator that provides you with a historical view on your viral activity over the years. How to get started? Simply open an account on Memolane.com, connect the various accounts you have on social networks and in a few minutes Memolane reconstructs a kind of diary of your digital activity. Each track left over the years on various social networks becomes a "memo" on Memolane.

The result is as exciting as opening a scrapbook and actually even more considering that Facebook does not offer an access to an interface that would display historically our posts. Thinking of this, does an online archive not have a priceless value? To be totally honest I am quite frustrated not to be able to access my Facebook wall and filter my posts in order to only read my summer 2009 ones written in Carloforte – an island in Sardinia for instance. But thanks to Melomane this is now possible and not only for my Facebook notes but also my tweets and my YouTube videos.

The social networks that can be aggregated via Memolane: Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Youtube, Flickr, MySpace, Last.Fm and a few others. Tumblr is missing which is bad considering the rising importance of this platform, hopefully it should be added soon to the list above.

A nice anecdote: I discovered that my first online action on a social media network was to post a video in December 2005 showing my brother sneezing on the train that was taking us from Milan to Abruzzo and shot with my Nokia phone.

In addition to social networks, those who are members of the geek club should be thrilled to know that they can add their own blogs and RSS feeds from any sites. However I think that these extra- features are not really reflecting the purpose of Memolane as they do not longer have this very “personal” appeal that has inspired the project.

Memolane is a social network on its own. You can add friends, share your online post diary, and aggregate around stories or experience.
Writing this article gave me the idea to create a story with my brother that would begin with the “sneezing Nokia episode”, looking back to 2005 and write the future.
