A travel suggestion with haunting views
If you are tired of yet another spa weekend and you’ve done every city break going – give yourself something to really talk about with a little paranormal visit.
The Stanley Hotel in Colorado is where legendary novelist Stephen King was inspired to write The Shining and where it it is said the original hotel owners still come to visit, albeit uninvited. Set close to The Rocky Mountains, the landmark hotel is listed as an authentic historical hotel of America and is perfect for a Colorado getaway.
If however other bumps in the night are what you are looking for (!) …check out concierge.com for their list of the best hotels for an affair. The article features twelve hotels without “paparazzi, overzealous staffers or lobby crowds to spoil the fun.”
Maintaining the gothic theme, and guaranteeing you’ll end up in each others arms, our fave suggestion is Lafayette House, in NYC. Described by concierge.com as, “having an irresistible Hitchcockian draw”, the, anonymous building holds its secrets close to its chest.
Despite being close to the hip Bowery district, it has been described as “… the kind of house you duck into, wearing a hat…to rush into your lover’s arms and plot your spouse’s untimely death.” Without a check-in desk, working fireplaces roll-top baths and antiques in every room it may well be the real kiss of death.
