The Vogue US September issue is so grand, so important and so iconic that even a docu-film has been produced following the painstaking activities related to the creation of the book. Seminal fashion magazine, Vogue US sets the bar for everyone to follow. In their vast September 2012 issue, the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda presentation takes pride of place.
In
July, Dolce & Gabbana invited a handful of clients and the fashion press
zeitgeist into a fairytale land of couture, Sicily and tradition in Toarmina.
Hamish Bowles, retells the story, the details of the fashion and the mood of the
celebration with the deft pen of a poet. Peter Lindbergh, under the careful
guidance of Grace Coddington shoots a short yet intense story with
Dolce&Gabbana Alta Moda as a protagonist. The wondrous buildings and gardens
of the San Domenico, a Dominican monastery turned luxury hotel are a fitting
backdrop.
The
unique spirit which inhabits the atelier, transported from Milan for the
occasion, is beautifully described with a sense of almost religious wonder as
well as human nature. The inspirations, muses and memories which give life to
the maison’s debut Alta Moda collection become reality in a fantasy world of
crinoline, Papasses and Sicilian widows.
Live
opera plays throughout the show and is later drowned out by the exultant cries
of the audience and the designers once the last model has floated off the
catwalk. The night is played out by traditional music, stylists dancing to the
beat of the tambourine and a sense of achievement which resulted in the re
incarnation of the magic which has seduced so many, that of Sicily and
Dolce&Gabbana.
