Together, as Swide, we shared our new year’s resolution with you, our readers. Love it or hate it, today is St. Valentine’s Day and we want to take the opportunity to share our thoughts on the Big L with you and how to be happy when in love.
We are not suggesting that we are experts and expect you to agree with the advice we have to offer, but we have all experienced love in one way or another and would like to be frank. Who knows, maybe one of our quotes rings truth for you…
Giuliano Federico
Love can’t be Dionysus only. Love is Apollo and Dionysus together, heart and reason, rationality and irrationality. You can only be happy if you never let Dionysius prevail over Apollo. You can be happy in love if you let go of your heart while at the same time the brain is still functioning.
Elisa Della Barba
"It's hard to find the right ingredients for the recipe of happy love. I think you need to embrace the fact that no one is perfect, including you and your loved one, and that a relationship requires the same amount of effort - if not more – that you would put into a work project you truly believe in (and as many compromises, too). Don't take anything for granted. And, most important of all, communicate. Don't just talk. No matter how tired you are, how mad you are, how sad: share feelings, thoughts - good and bad - and ideas with your partner. Understanding (as being emphatic and respectful of the other's point of view) is the first step to take in order to nurture love. That said, I am single, so what do I know :-)"
Ben Taylor
Love is something that needs to be accepted and respected by both. To unbalance the scales is to cause harm. Independence within a relationship is key to letting love grow, strengthening the bond of trust and letting your loved ones fulfil their potential. To hold someone back, no matter how long that tether may be, will cause resentment. A relationship will have its ups and downs and, if the person is right for you, the tie is not a tether; it is love which gives freedom. Easier said than done.

Real love is about loving the other person's defects as much as their qualities.
Pietro Mattia Giambanco
Love is a vast window that overlooks our happiest regression.
Valentina Zannoni
Love to me is not about grand gestures, promises or rhetoric. Its about having the capacity of allowing someone into your daily life, habits and routine, and making them feel welcome- never a burden, never a compromise, never a chore, regardless how hard it may seem sometimes. Love is not about giving yourself to someone, but about being able to share yourself with them.
Hugo Mc Cafferty
I think when you love somebody you belong to them, completely and utterly. That means you put their needs before your own and that your only vision of the future is centred on being with them. Loving someone in this way nurtures and feeds back into how you love yourself. The ego can stand in the way of true love as often we have an idea of who ‘I’ am. When you’re in love with someone you have to think as ‘We’. The heart has an infinite capacity for love, it is an inexhaustible well and the more you let into you life the more magical your everyday life becomes.
In some ways love is a decision you make and not something that just happens. For sure there has to be a ‘spark’ but that spark has to be fanned and fed with fuel everyday to burn as real fire and the fire has to be tended carefully.
Isabella Gamez
Love is to see yourself in the person you love. It is a mix between the opening yourself to the unexpected, tolerance, commitment to change together and team work. This, I feel, is very important piece in the pursuit of happiness.
Massimo Di Felice
What is love? It’s a question that enters our mind every time our hearts pound. When you love you give everything, you would give your life for it, you are in it body and soul. It’s so true what the French poet Jaques Prévert said, “the lover’s kiss upright the doors of the night… passers-by point their fingers at them. But lovers are there for no one… they are elsewhere, far way from the night, and much higher than the day, in the bright splendour of their first love”.
At the end of the day, the ones who powered by love live forever.
Alessia di Carlo
Love is in the air... That is what I tell myself every day, looking for inspiration so I can talk about Love. I am looking for the right words, but there aren't any. I’ve given up and will try to find the answer for this difficult task.
Love really is in the air; It's in the air I breathe, in the eyes of the man that says "goodnight" to me every evening, in the good morning given to me by a musician playing on the subway. At the beginning you think he is bothersome but then you realize he is enriching you... and it's in the honest smiles I cross everyday. It becomes alive in the little things that life presents you with... Yes, love is in the air. I am sure of it!
