Dolce and Gabbana has displayed a talent for many of the facets related to fashion; their latest exploit is in fashion styling. The duo’s intuition and patronage for new talent has brought them to collaborate with a new French magazine called Antidote and with the newest recruit to the Olympus of fashion photography: Giampaolo Sgura.
Mr Dolce, Mr Gabbana and Mr Sgura for Antidote
Magazine Antidote, edited by Yann Weber, is a novel take on fashion magazines. Almost as an “antidote” to fashion magazines today, where trends and seasonality are key, Weber’s intent is to create a fashion magazine with art book qualities- collectibility and timelessness. In order to convey these ideas to their best, Weber decided to develop a magazine that is monothematic- both from a product and artistic viewpoint. In essence- the second issue of the magazine, much in the same way as an art book, features shoes and is compiled exclusively with editorials produced by Giampaolo Sgura.

During men’s fashion week in June, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana took time off from their busy schedule to collaborate on a shoot with Giampaolo Sgura themed on shoes for Magazine Antidote. Weber, who was present at the shoot described it as “very exciting, everything went so fast: the models, the pictures, the shoes… I loved it and still all of that has been made with a strong professionalism, with taste, efficiency and brightness!”
Dolce&Gabbana’s relationship with Giampaolo Sgura is a longstanding one. The photographer has shot some of the fashion labels catalogues and advertisement campaigns. In a way, the fashion duo’s patronage of the photographer has helped to catapult Sgura into the limelight, making him one of the most promising fashion photographers to have emerged from Italy in recent years.

Weber, who after all has chosen to entrust the second issue of his magazine to Sgura himself, describes his art in these words: “He is a very passionate person, he works with a strong accurate and very quickly. He always knows where to go with an idea and how to do it. I really like his energy, his instinct and how elegant his women are and the masculinity of his men. He knows very well how to sublimate fashion.”
