From all corners of the world to win the WSB, The Milano Thunder boxing team are ready to win. Tonight is the first home match and they are going to be pitched against the Los Angeles Matadors.
Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder are ready to Win
The season has begun! The Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder team will compete in the second World Series of Boxing season. Following the success of Clemente Russo in the Individual Heavyweight Finals and of Sergiy Derevyanchenko in the Individual Middleweight Finals in May, management focus has been on strengthening the team. A team which already showed itself to be extremely competitive last season, coming second in its group, after beating Paris United, champions of the first WSB season, in three out of four matches.
Recruitment for the 2011/12 team began with eight confirmed boxers, including four Italians, Vittorio Parrinello, Vincenzo Picardi, Clemente Russo and Domenico Valentino from the amateur national team, recruited thanks to renewal of the agreement with the Italian Boxing Federation. The Italian boxers have all qualified for the 2012 London Olympics.
As was the case last season, the Milanese team is the most international of all the teams competing in the WSB, which shows that it has truly entered into the spirit of an event that, thanks to this season’s new members, is now a truly intercontinental team championship and a showcase for international boxing talent. The Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder Team has members from twelve countries which, this year also includes South America, with one Brazilian and two Argentine boxers. The team, which always counts a number of East European boxers among its members, also has a member from Africa, with the addition of a Cameroonian boxer.
In the Bantamweight Division, the team can rely on the performance of Venceslav Gojan, World Champion and Gold Medallist at the last European Championships in Moldavo and Olympic Bronze Medallist, who has joined a division in which the Thunders already showed promise last season.
Lightweight Division boxers in the team include: Italy’s Valentino, Hungary’s Miklos Varga and the young Argentine talent, Juan Carrasco Herrera, class of 1992.
Three new members have joined the team alongside Derevyanchenko, Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder’s pièce de résistance: Brazil’s Pedro Alvaro Santos De Lima, Gold Medallist at the 2010 Military Games, Ireland’s William Mc Loughlin and Italy’s promising new talent, Raffaele Munno.
The Light Heavyweight Division, in which the Thunders met the greatest difficulty last year, has been completely revolutionised with confirmation of the recruitment of Nikolajs Grisunins alongside that of Rafael Lima, five-time Brazilian Champion and Gold Medallist at the 2010 Military World Games, Imre Szello, 2009 European Champion and, above all, Ludovic Groguhé, true revelation of the first World Series of Boxing season, who led Paris United to victory in the individual finals for his weight division. Acquisition of the French boxer is a last minute coup, which, as in the best market traditions, can make all the difference in the team’s quest for 2012 WSB glory.
Clemente Russo and Benjey Zimmerman in the Heavyweight Division will be joined by Poland’s Michal Olas and Cameroon’s Ngoula Tangoum Romarick.
The changes do not only affect the boxing roster: in addition to the event’s new format, which has been dramatically changed to ensure a greater balance and a more exiting and spectacular structure, the team is also under new management.
The Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder team will be moving to the Sala Gallery in the Assago Forum for its home matches ( tonight, the 18th November, 13th January and 10th and 17th February), while the match on 2nd December will be held at the Palamaggiò in Caserta, where Russo, Valentino, Picardi and Parrinello will be able to embrace their fans. The decision to hold the matches in Caserta has been taken in recognition of and to pay tribute to a land with close links to the world of boxing, where boxing is so much more than a passion and where the enthusiasm of boxing fans will cheer the champions onto the ring in the match against Astana.
The first home match is scheduled to take place tonight, the Friday 18th November, against the Los Angeles Matadors.
