The New Hippies: from the Mid West to North Africa

The FW02 collection was a mix and match of styles, inspirations, historical periods and ethnicities. In an effort to hone in on the concept of casual luxury, Dolce&Gabbana fashioned a collection built on contrasts. North African, Hippie, Victorian and Western, were merged in a marriage of styles, fabrics and silhouettes.

Dolce&Gabbana often look to iconic periods of history or iconic personages to inspired their colllections, but sometimes they alo slook towards geography. In this collection, the American Mid West meets North Africa in a deam like envrironment built aroud teh concept of modern hippies.

Earthy inspirations such as North African colours and fabrics were the linchpin of this new vogue. Dolce&Gabbana took it a step further and traditionally, the touched upn the demand, but translated it into its won language.

The inspiration behind the campaign took the North African influence further as the ambiance and props, especially the donkey, referenced nomadic cultures. The collection however won some very urbane fans, including Britney, Kylie and Mary J Blige.
