One of the iconic signatures of the Dolce&Gabbana fashion house started to come into its own in the first half of the Naughties. The multi inspired, multi thematic and mix and matching elements of the collections become stylistic tell tales of the Dolce&Gabbana aesthetic.
The Dolce&Gabbana FW2004 collection is all about the sixties. Unlike today's colections, FW04 looked towards the more kooky elements of sixties fashion to create a beautiful mish mash of styles.
Building up on their part vintage, part astronaut, part bondage collection from the previous season, for FW04 Dolce and Gabbana chose to build upon the multi directional fashion with a varied yet well-strung show.
The
classic portion of the collection, that portion that satisfies the unquenchable
need for Dolce&Gabbana enthusiast everywhere to snap up the latest
interpretation of their classic style. This part of the collection celebrated
the pant suits- classically pinstriped and classically in varying silhouettes,
from oversize to body con.
The
unending love and interest in the techno pop culture was represented in the
Dolce&Gabbana show by oversize volumes, webbed ski jackets, bright nylon
hues and classic optical sixties checks mixed with florals.
Referencing
partly their DNA and partly moving forward there was a large portion of the
collection which utilised traditional corsetry elements in outerwear. Body-con
jersey dresses with snap buttons placed strategically, hook and eye fastenings
on fur coats and fringed corset dresses in bright colours.
And
then came the romantic finale. Designed for the Goddess Exhibition opening MET
Ball in New York that year, Dolce&Gabbana created a plethora of romantic
gowns, short, long, in organza, chiffon silk and lace. The dresses were all
embellished with Swarovsky crystals, which made them sparkle like the stars who
wore them: Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bundchen and Victoria
Beckham.
The
advertisement campaign also represented the three main moods of the collection.
The images where shot as though they were in a house, each room with a different
theme: for techno, the room had a neon floor, for romantic a pastel hued room
filled with cherry blossom and one, a classic bedroom.
