Bohemian Rapsody: 1993 Dolce&Gabbana

It was the year of Madonna's Sex Book Tour, the year of Erotica. It was the year fashion conscious teenagers from all over the world reading Vogue wore cloche velvet hats and put on heavy seventies make-up...

In one word: Romantic. The Dolce&Gabbana SS1993 Collection wanted to create a wave of romanticism "borrowed" from the intangible spices and délices of far away lands and fabrics. In their own words, a voyage to Istanbul nurtured the gyspy-like patchworks, the gold brocades, the passementerie, and even a louche rockn' roll attitude.

In another word: Hippy. In the sense of freedom. Complete liberty to mix, to be eclectic, to dream. To wear the first Dolce&Gabbana gold platforms, the hippy tye-dye jeans. To pout in the luxurious expectations of a new decade made of matte lipsticks.

The flower power returning in the nineties with a less political and a more romantic appeal.

Goregeous laces and the most emblematic accessory: the hat.

An explosion of flowers around the neck or on top of the hat.

Rich brocades, tulles, gold, laces. A luxurious hippy in the making.
