Captured on set of the forthcoming Rob Marshall film, Nine in which the designers have cameo roles as Italian priests, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce showcase their passion for cinema. Always inspired by film, Swide caught up with the designers to discover what their dream film roles are and what film they would have liked to direct.

Anyone who’s been on a film-set knows that only people with a real passion for film are willing to stand for hours in between shoots. Captured on set of the forthcoming Nine musical starring Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Judi Dench, Fergie, Sophia Loren, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman and Daniel Day Lewis in a musical film based on Federico Fellini’s 1963 classic autobiographical film 8½. – the designers showcase their fascination with the world of film.
The designers have always drawn a lot of inspiration from the film such as “Il Gattopardo” (The Leopard) by Luchino Visconti, as well as Italian director Fellini, described by the designers as being “…perhaps the best of all”, and the director Michelangelo Antonioni,”…his work remains incredibly modern and always will.“
