A big trend of the runway, and a favourite of Dolce&Gabbana, transparencies dominated the FW13 catwalks. From light organza and tulle, to lace and laser cut materials, a bit of skin goes a long way for being on trend this winter.
Transparent, today is a positive adjective, perhaps one of the most positive. Being genuine, and honest are natural qualities which often become shaded as we grow up. In today’s environment, however, being transparent is a more appreciated compliment than beautiful, intelligent or funny.
Why not endorse these qualities and make the most of them in fashion too? Be transparent and wear transparent, that’s what we preach here at Swide.
Catch
two trends with one stone with this voluminous tulle dress. The lightness of the
fabric and the strategic gathering at the waist, collar and cuffs give the dress
a puffy look. The deconstructed construction makes it light and allows for
sinuous movements for the fabric. The tulle is of course transparent yet the
hand applied lace trims give the dress a tailored edge.
Transparent
does not mean you need to flaunt your undies wherever you go. This macramé two
coloured dress is just the ticket for a see through look for those with a
conservative streak.
Embroidery
is another strong trend this season. Mix it with transparent fabrics for a
modern take on a classic craft. A tulle top with needle point bib matched to a
lace skirt with laser cut waxed sating micro flowers embraces the traditional
and the innovative.
Lace,
of course is the most common way to work the transparent trend, but there is
nothing common about this lace. The highly elaborate design and the hand applied
applications of more lace, satin flowers and beads take this dress miles above
the lace dress staple.
Silk
tulle and macramé are a transparent match made in heaven. The lightness of the
silk tulle and the intricate craft of the macramé are a happy contrast. The
a-line silhouette of the dress allows for the weight of the intarsia to do its
job, while the tulle maintains its transparency.
In
a collection dominated by Baroque, Dolce&Gabbana mix their DNA to the
season. A gathered lace dress is a must for any connoisseur of the brand, and
for FW13 it’s become baroque in feel. Highly elaborate lace applications grace
this body-con silk tulle dress where transparent and baroque meet in a highly
fashionable embrace.
