The blazer this summer has undergone a restyling: though it maintains its classic feel, the details launch SS12’s tailoring well into the contemporary sphere.
Although the SS12 collection was inspired by Sicilian fishermen, net being the central theme, which is developed into accessories, knitwear and jackets, sharp, elegant yet modern tailoring plays a big part in creating that modern luxury feel of the Dolce&Gabbana SS12 collection.
The blazer, is where the innovations for the season are centred, cropped, double breasted, single breasted, the lapels: every incarnation of the new blazer are explained here.
The
more classic inspired single-breasted blazers all feature a one-button
fastening- bringing an eveningwear feel to the look. What sets these jackets
apart are the lapels: peaked, with an exaggerated spearhead point created by a
double stitched wide piping detail. The trousers for the summer are slightly
loose and with a turned up hem. The Sicilian fishermen reference is in the
brogues: classic lines but faded, to hint at water damage.
The same blazer with the piping detail, which creates a contrast and elongates the figure, is also available in with less exaggerated lapels without the spearhead point. Again, the main theme of the collection is recalled in the footwear: laser cut leather brogues that look like net.
One
of the strong trends when it comes to the tailoring portion of the collection is
the cropped double-breasted jacket. It looks modern yet refined, and the unusual
effect created by the double-breasted single button fastening is thoroughly new.
There are some novel ideas in the small leather goods department too: this
envelope shape iPad 2 cover in textured calf leather is a new concept with a
vintage feel.
There
are other new elements to the tailoring collection: for example colour. Classic
suits, developed in trend lead hues such as aubergine. This particular suit has
another novel detail, the button is placed lower than in classic jackets,
creating longer lapels with a deeper V.
The
white shirt has also been renovated for SS12. From shirt to bomber jacket to be
exact. With an elasticated waist, to be worn both tucked in and over trousers-
preferably formal ones. In a variety of styles, short or long sleeve or with
unusual button fastenings, the white shirt worn on its own is a must have for
SS12.
The
classic white shirt has also of course not been forgotten. In a collection rich
in summery details and maritime inspiration, a crisp white shirt should never be
missed. And after all this tailoring advice, you’re going to need a maxi Miss
Sicily to carry all your new gear.
