Dolce&Gabbana and leather are a great couple. The brand is known for taking traditional materials and transforming them into something special and always new. For SS12, leather was the star of the show: being treated like royalty.
The SS12 collection drew inspiration from one of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s favourite places: Sicily. The island is steeped in history and tradition, the architecture and culture are still oldy worldy, and the sea, and its fishermen are intensely romantic. It is in fact the image of the fisherman which is referenced throughout the show, and cotton, nylon, but especially leather take form into the working fishermen’s best friend: the net.
The
blazer was a very strong trend for SS12, and Dolce&Gabbana took the trend
and added their unusual touch. The cropped double-breasted blazer was an
important development in the season, and it was aptly overlaid with laser cut
net. Accessories have also been given the net treatment, particularly the men’s
totes and perforated brogues.
Softer
tailoring plays a big part in the season- looser fit blazers and slouchy yet
rigorously sartorial trousers made relaxed and stylish statements on the runway.
This light grey perforated leather versions with slim notched lapels is a must
have item.
Dolce&Gabbana
introduced the leather jacket as a sort of mix between a cardigan and a blazer.
Wear it over tailoring for an elegant yet fashionable look. This petroleum green
large perforated leather version is your ticket to fashion success.
Shorts!
Sportswear is a big trend for SS12, so why not invest in a pair of perforated
leather sand coloured pair. Perfect for those off duty hot afternoons or for a
particularly stylish beach look. Finish the look off with coloured sunglasses
and a burgundy wine hued net overlay hold all.
Sun
bleached neutrals warmed the runways this season. Dolce&Gabbana’s entire
colour palette was sun bleached, in reference to the salt stained worn out
colours of fishermen’s work clothes. Perforated leather also works for
accessories- especially elegant yet cool brogues.
