The Dolce&Gabbana Spiga 2 project which supports emerging designers has unearthed two gems of Italian fashion talent. Andrea Incontri and Fausto Puglisi are set for the big time.
Almost 3 years ago, Dolce&Gabbana decided to turn their retail space in Via Spiga 2, one of the most iconic shopping streets in Milan, into a platform for emerging designers. The boutique hosts a selection of talents of the Made in Italy in conjunction with Dolce&Gabbana accessories. Through the boutique the brand has launched many a talents, but few as successful as Andrea Incontri and Fausto Puglisi.
Fausto Puglisi, Sicilian of origins, like Domenico Dolce
began his fashion career in New York. Since then, his outfits have caught the
eye of many a Hollywood starlet. His aesthetic is a mix between popular culture
and classic traditions, borrowing heavily from Sicily, Italian neo-realism
movies, American star system, Roman gladiators, modern architecture and the
richness of the Mediterranean Baroque.
Puglisi’s clothes embody an ideal of beauty based on strength, to design a
contemporary allure. His glamorous gladiator looks have been worn at the
Super Bowl halftime show in 2012 by Madonna
and many a red carpet.
Fausto Puglisi has been nominated as the new creative director at Ungaro and will be showing his first collection under the historic brand in Paris Fashion Week in a couple of weeks.
Andrea Incontri’s minimalist aesthetic has won him many fans over the years. His master being Yoji Yamamoto, contextualizes the Japanese muse’s influence, yet the rigour of the made in Italy remains strong. Incontri studied architecture, its his first love and will forever influence his work. Incontri began working with leather, creating beautifully crafted, stream-lined men’s accessories and soon moved to menswear.
His fashion designing efforts have been praised and won him many accolades. His security and novel aesthetic for an Italian designer have given him the courage to move into womenswear, with success. His second womenswear show is due this fashion week in Milan while his company is expanding exponentially.
Puglisi and Incontri will be fêted at an exclusive cocktail party at the Dolce&Gabbana Spiga 2 boutique on 23rd February during Milan Fashion Week.
