Through the virtual keyhole
Much as we love interior shoots and their staged vases of expensive flowers we miss the debris of everyday life - slippers, magazines, an opened bottle of wine, which is why we're following Liz Arnold's blog "Homebodies".
The blog Homebodies features posts and photos about the homes of people, Interiors writer Liz Arnold actually visits.
Chroniciling the spaces of the "somebodies, nobodies and the anybodies in between" - the blog refreshingly omits to feature socialites, face-lifts, and Upper East Side side yummy mummies. Plus having always enjoyed observing how people live, Liz blogs about homes that she's actually visited however extravagant, utilitarian, messy, IKEA, Tufenkian, big or small.
Featured below is a post from the blog which features graphic designer and typographer Jessica Fleischmann who lives in the hills of Echo Park, Los Angeles.
Behind her house, a converted garage serves as a playroom for her creative projects and acts as the base for her design firm. "Described by Liz as "a little piece of heaven" - Swide takes a closer look.
"A former garage, the building behind the house wasn't accessible by car, anyway, so Jessica upgraded it into a studio. Shelves of books line one wall; along the other, a work table extends the length of the room".
Exterior: "The house is off Baxter, "the steepest street in L.A.," says Jessica. "It's fun to see looks on people's faces as they go over..."
Jessica's house has a pretty blue door. Featured on the window, "YES, YES WE CAN"--an Obama moment.
At the entry, Jessica built a light box. "Oh, it's just some fluorescent tubes in the wall," she says. "Then I put Plexiglas over it instead of drywall." Fun!
"On the wall, framed works by artists Cynthia Madansky, Olga Koumoundouros and others".
