Letting social media work for you
In the recent years, social media has aided many desperate job seekers and for many companies allowed them to cut recruitment costs. The days of scouring classifieds have long passed us. It now seems that in order to snag a job these days; it is obligatory to have some kind of online presence. We live in a world consumed by surfing social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, etc…why not use these mediums to find that next job?
Tweeting about a need for a job, uploading a Youtube online resume, following company recruiters, are all some of the creative ways people are trying to hunt down jobs. It’s surprising that more than over a thousand people have disregarded their own privacy and uploaded their resumes in video format on Youtube, along with their personal contact information. While some may think a video resume can be over doing it, many companies actually applaud the creativity behind it.

In addition to helping job seekers, Social media has also helped companies cut costs in their recruitment efforts. Clickz reported that last year, "U.K. mobile operator 02 estimated 62 percent of small businesses were using social media to help minimize their outlay, citing marketing and recruitment as key areas. U.S. digital agency ,Organic also claimed at the time it had shifted 75 percent of its recruitment efforts towards social networking platforms last year”. Proving once again the need for job seekers to keep up with the times and become active on the world wide web.
