The Noisettes: Never forget you

| posted Jun 29, 2009

The band, formed by lead singer Shingai Shoniwa with Dan Smith on guitar and Jamie Morrison on the drums, are set to release their 3rd single from their second album “Wild Young Hearts” on June 15th .

The track entitled “Never forget you” is already doing the rounds on Youtube - take a peek below.

The song about love lost and sharing memories over whisky, has, funny enough a slightly drunk melancholy (…we just got swallowed up/ By the whole damned world/ What you’re thinking/ Did you miss me/ I’ve borrowed your silver boots/ Now if you just let me/ give them back to you/ I’ll never forget you…).

Musically, we’re in Duffy and Amy Winehouse territory, with a vintage Motown appeal, yet just bubbling under the surface is a certain secret power ready to explode in the singer’s voice, an added wavering from classic up-tempo rock to glamour pop (remember Scissor Sisters anyone?)

The Noisettes rock can be tough, but don’t worry: the group comes in a shiny package, thanks to the magnificent Shingai’s afro-chic sense of style. It’s easy to say of course, but this charismatic lady, daughter of a single mother from Zimbabwe - has everything it takes to become a huge superstar.

Without the need for special effects, Shingai can blow minds, as seen in the viral video version of their smash hit "Don't upset the rhythm" where Shingai steals the scene, far away from official set. Like a black Venus onstage - she'll seduce it, smiling, screaming with plenty of punk attitude.

It’s been a long journey since 2003, when the band began, but it’s been a road full of memorable moments such as “Scratch Your Name" which featured on The Sopranos final episode, they’ve toured with the crème de la crème of English rock artists – from Muse to Babyshambles (incidentally – little known fact when Pete’s Doherty band tour was cancelled they decided to go fishing).

Shingai and her band have declared 2009 as ‘The Year’: they’ve just played a one-off free gig at the launch of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, had a No. 1 spot on the UK iTunes album chart just one week after releasing their new album AND they’ll be the main support group for Lady Gaga’s “The Fame ball” European tour.

As a line from one of their tracks says - ‘Life could be super beautiful’
