Why The Standard is the toast of New York

| posted Nov 18, 2009

One would assume a place has officially arrived when fashion muse Daphne Guinness decides to celebrate her birthday there. Formerly known as Boom Boom Room The Standard hotel's penthouse-level lounge (which is not advertised on the hotel website and rarely mentioned to the hotel's actual guests) gets its close-up in a video staring Lydia Hearst for new style magazine Gravure.

Ah...to have been a guest at Daphne Guinness' birthday. Instead we must contend with flicking through her party snaps (this being Daphne they come courtesy of Purple editor Oilivier Zahm) on Purple's must-read online diary - Take a look here www.purple-diary.com/daphne-guinness-at-her-birthday-standard-hotel.

With Daphne considering The Standard's penthouse fit for her heels - we did wonder why the A-list don't appear to have a fear of heights and prefer to dwell high up in the clouds in the penthouse. Andre Balaz's latest hotel spot is no different with its vertigo-inducing views overlooking the Hudson and plexiglass flooring with glimpses of all 18-floors below.

The newly launched NY style magazine, Gravure has also used the hotel's penthouse to shoot it's launch video 'Consume' staring actress/socialite Lydia Hearst.

Written and directed by Bradley Young - former photography director at Interview, GQ, Instyle, Talk and Radar - Lydia works the camera showcasing the not-all-together sane aspects of quite literally living the high life.
