The gentlemen of Bacongo

| posted Nov 11, 2009

A quick peek at the stylish blogs around us and one might be mistakenly for thinking all the stylish people in the world lived in London, New York , Paris or Milan. This new book takes a fascinating (not to mention refreshing) look at the elegant and immaculately dressed dandies from the heart of the Congo.

These dandy images are actually part of an exclusive group - The Sapeurs  - one of the world's most exclusive clubs which has its own code of honour and professional conduct and strict notions of morality - not to mention excellent taste in suits.

This unlikely style bible shot from the Congo could be of course deemed frivolous given the problems surrounding the region, however, as the book's preface (written by designer Paul Smith) points out - these are men who work hard for their designer jackets - and for that we're more than happy to watch them revel in their delights.
