An alternative take on Parisian chic

| posted Feb 8, 2010

When conjuring up images of French people, Parisians especially, a certain cliché comes to mind: grumpy but utterly chic, rude but elegant. A new alternative documentary series is here to show there is more to Paris than snooty mademoiselles.

Paris has inspired many a novel and film, and numerous are the tributes to its beauty and majesty; however, courtesy to a recent initiative, the world is finally discovering a whole other side to the French capital. This time Paris isn't about the couture shows or an overpriced new gourmet restaurant; amazing as it  may be to some, Paris is the background to millions of mundane daily lives - and amongst the ordinary routines a few faces stand out. Showing these faces to the world is the point of this documentary series, "The Everyday Walk of Fame".

Expect no guided groups of Japanese tourists but rather commuters, most indifferent, some amused, on their way to work, who steal glances, stop for a few moments... What faces have we discovered so far? The senior busker who dances around on the streets, Elie; Violette, the florist who was born in the middle of a flower field on Lily of the Valley day (May 1st in France)...

Vimeo hosts the entirety of the videos released so far; to be enjoyed on a (welcome) break from Amelie and La Vie en Rose!
