The Dolce&Gabbana SS12 collection was inspired by everything Italian: vegetable prints, pasta jewellery, village decorative lights and of course Sicilian traditions. Black, is a colour that immediately springs to mind when imagining the typical Sicilian woman’s garbs.
Soft colours like light pink, light blue, mint green, lemon yellow and their variations are the key colours this season. Wear them in soft contrast or match the hue from head to toe, the important thing is to embrace the pastel.
The Dolce&Gabbana SS12 collection was inspired by the 50s aesthetic and the concept of old style Italian beauties. It did however also include a fun, almost irreverent element to the collection. This can be mainly ascertained in the prints, but also certain looks: in particular the new concept of the suit. Rigorously worn with culottes- almost mini bloomers with matching blazers, or if you’re really daring, just with this summers’ ubiquitous hit: the bralet.
Dolce&Gabbana have come of age. At 27, the brand has gained a maturity which adds to its influence as a trend setter and pioneer on the Italian, and on the international fashion stage. During the brand’s first quarter of a century, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been architects of a new aesthetic- one which merges tradition, with innate female qualities and an edge, that pokes fun at themselves and at fashion as a whole, which make Dolce&Gabbana so endearing and close to so many people’s hearts.
The bodysuit or corset are archetypal Dolce&Gabbana items of clothing. Sexy, versatile and fun, it represents many aspects of the brand.

The boyfriend fit basically means loose, oversize and badly fitting? Well yes, if you in fact borrow your boyfriend’s clothes. But now you don’t have to look like you’ve raided his closet, as there are “boyfriend fit” items actually made for women, which will make you look more like Kate Moss than the boy from Big once he shrinks back to his original 12 year old self.

Net is an important concept for Dolce&Gabbana. It is largely developed along three lines: firstly the reference to Sicilian fishermen nets, like for the SS12 menswear collection, the fact that net is in a way an interpretation of tulle or lace, and finally, net as in internet, which references the brand’s commitment to the digital sphere.
