Anna Mouglalis (Marie Claire Italia Jan 10)

Posted Dec 22, 2009

Lagerfeld shot his muse Anna Mouglalis for a calendar published by Marie Claire as a tribute to the actresses of Italian Neorealism. Pure French elegance meets Italian panache.

Dressed by the iconic Italian designers, the usually timid and discreetly beautiful actress cuts as strong a figure as the characters she's brought to life, from Simone de Beauvoir to Coco Chanel (soon to be released in Jan Kounen's take on the Chanel biopic, Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinski). Just like film buff Madonna she is very fond of the great actresses of Italian film, from Monica Vitti to Sophia Loren, although her own sensuality is of rather different kind: a low, masculine voice, a very slim figure... Though you could hardly tell in such dresses!

Recently turned director, having shot a rather erotic exploration of female desire, Les Filles, she sums it all up with the word volupté, halfway between physical pleasure and a way of life. And somehow she seems the perfect illustration for such things... Who needs Coco!
