The style rules you thought you knew are to be ignored this summer. One of the it-bags of the season will be none other than the fanny pack and cowboy boots will be their best ally. Swide's stylist shows you how you can make it work.

It has come a long way and may have hit a few bumps along the road but the controversial and delightfully retro fanny pack (you might be more comfortable calling it bum bag... rather silly names either way!) is back for the spring and it's revamped 2010 incarnation means we're actually happy to welcome it in our wardrobes. Forget the clichés, this time it's big and bold and to be worn however you please. Mixed with pretty lace and sexy denim it's just the thing for the fierce, rule-breaking cowgirl of next season... See for yourselves and start breaking those rules!

The fanny pack is back and it is bigger than ever: ignore the rules, wear it on your shoulder, or have it dangle from your arm... Your style, your rules.

Bare legs meet boots: who ever said flip flops were the only option? Cowboy boots paired with denim hotpants and suede mini skirts offer a daring alternative.

Sweet meets sexy: pretty white lace and flirty denim skirts with sexy waist-cinching belts and animal print.

Denim meets denim: mixing fabrics while adding monochrome touches turns the infamous double denim into a fearless affair.

West meets South : take your fanny pack and denim to the savana for a 2010 reinterpretation of the African queen.

Cowgirl meets boy: a healthy dose of masculine tailoring is just the thing for the lone rangers.
