D&G's new take on suiting up

Posted Mar 10, 2010

We all love a man in a great suit but our heads would definitely turn for a man in a great ski suit. Meet D&G's dreamboat for next winter: a suave James Bond on the slopes, always elegant but most importantly of all damn cheeky.

If in doubt wear some ski pants; that should become a life rule by the time we enter next winter. Think proper technical fabrics and loose fit, as one would wear on the slopes. Only not just on the slopes!

So you may wear them on the slopes the way you are actually meant to - and even do some actually skiing if you have to!

Just remember to pair with heavy knits, preferably Fair Isle, so as not to sink in the style stakes.

Matching your gloves, scarves and hats isn't cheesy, it's chic; and a touch of fur if you want to stand out as the ultimate snow rabbit.

Planning on a lunchbreak? Take a cue from Anna dello Russo and change outfit midway  through the day as it would be terminally uncool to be seen at the slopeside eaterie in clothes you actually, eeww, sweated in. Make a statement in an urban snowboy look, with the right amount of denim and a sleek darker palette; your jacket is your best ally (it's chilly out there) so make it chic with a fur lining or detailing, and keep it varied in fabrics such as nylon, denim, velvet or leather.

After dusk however... it's every man for themselves and anything one can do to be noticed for their style credentials. After a gentle start in dirty wash oversize denim and some lovely fine knits, vivid colours make a welcome appearance to wake up this cold, cold night.

The key is mixing with traditionally elegant garments such as tailored jackets in true English gentleman style, and fabrics such as velvet or treated denim.

Even a cool young guy about the slopes should not underestimate the power of accessories. There is the obvious, all done in a mix of natural and technicaly fabrics (and always with a little extra D&G touch, may it be a zipper or another clever little detail): hats and scarves, gloves and ski goggles, and the all important apres-ski boots...

... And the rest: key rings with attached lucky charms (to wear your way, any possible way) and iPod or smartphone cases, with the same cheeky lucky charms to show your all-important attention to details.

After all those style efforts one most certainly deserves a good party and in their black & white Sunday bests (think James Bond and dinner jackets) our boys are ready to live a night to remember!

Just don't forget your waiscoat amidst all the excitement!
