Dolce&Gabbana have taken fabric embellishment to a whole new level since starting their label in the Eighties. Crystals, sequins and pearls have adorned dresses and bustiers in novel ways almost every season since. For SS12, as well as exquisite hand applied crystals and pearls, Dolce&Gabbana have introduced PVC 3D flowers over the already beautifully textured macramé.
The D&G SS12 collection was a real party of colours and prints. And for your summer parties, the D&G eveningwear portion of the collection will make you feel truly special. Whether you opt for a body con mini dress, a sequins embellished tunic or flowing maxi dresses- foulards is the keyword for your summer eveningwear.
The D&G SS12 collection took the foulard print trend a step further. The collection was actually made entirely from foulards, handkerchiefs of the classic size of 70X70cm. The Seventies vibe in the collection is palpable, mini shorts, tied up shirts, wrap around skirts tunics and mini dresses. Here are some looks which are perfect for daywear- for the office, an afternoon stroll and of course beachwear.

Amongst a cornucopia of velvet, gilded accessories, tulle and baroque embroidery the designers spoke about fashion, their beginnings and their place in history. The Dolce&Gabbana SS12 collection was inspired by the 50s aesthetic and the concept of old style Italian beauties. It did however also include a fun, almost irreverent element to the collection. This can be mainly ascertained in the prints, but also certain looks: in particular the new concept of the suit. Rigorously worn with culottes- almost mini bloomers with matching blazers, or if you’re really daring, just with this summers’ ubiquitous hit: the bralet.
The SS12 Dolce&Gabbana collection was inspired by fishermen, so the nets, the rolled up trousers and the discoloured effect on the fabrics and leather. However, Dolce&Gabbana know their client base and know what they’re good at, so on the runway they sent out a large variety of tailored looks which wet the appetite for a new summer wardrobe for those who have less maritime inclinations.
The D&G SS12 collections had a clear directional concept: foulards. Mixed with denim, fashioned into mini dresses, maxi dresses or culottes, the message is clear: foulards.
The finale of the Dolce&Gabbana SS12 show featuring a myriad of one off crystal embellished bustiers certainly got tongues wagging and hearts beating.
