Cuba to San Fran with James Dean

Posted Apr 29, 2009

Part of the Dolce & Gabbana SS09 menswear collection has a Havana inspired colour palette. Leather jackets with a 70's influence recall James Dean, and Brad Pitt in the The Fight Club.

The Dolce & Gabbana menswear collections always have a rebellious element - the innate style of cult icons such as James Dean and Paul Newman are channelled into key pieces within the collection and this season is no exception.

Take a peek below at James Dean's screen test (and his jacket!) below for a part in legendary film, Rebel Without a Cause.

For SS09 the designers were inspired to create a collection of leather jackets not only based on James Dean but which also referenced Brad Pitt's iconic red leather jacket from the hit film Fight Club. The result are leather jackets with a slick fit - soft to the touch yet tough in style, guaranteeing cult status without having to kill someone/yourself in the process.

The colours for the jackets however went on different journey - to Cuba, resulting in a colour palette that features browns in hues of liquorice and tobacco, all inspired by Cuba's rich heritage and its famous cigars. Take a look at the Wim Wender's iconic movie, Buena Vista Social Club that captures Havana's inspiring streets, colours and mood.
