Baaria, the onscreen retro that became catwalk modernity

Dolce & Gabbana's Fall/Winter 2010/2011 collection was a tribute to Sicily with Tornatore's Baaria one of the main inspirations.

A collection that is all about sartorialism, Sicily, sensuality, Typically Sicilian elements, with a special attention to technique and sartorial details for an overall sensual silhouette. Take the tank top for instance. a key garment to the Sicilian look that is also a Dolce & Gabbana staple; on this occasion it is becoming particularly sensual what with the choice of cut and fabric.

The main purpose of this collection is to communicate a certain taste and atmosphere, both derived from a strong, traditional identity. On the Dolce & Gabbana catwalk it translated as an emphasis on fabrics and technique and an attention to details.

The palette is reminiscent of a hot Sicilian day, dusty and warm, with greys and browns and earth tones. The fabrics acihieve that same effect thanks to a special treatment, to give them a worn-in, used feel; a special wash a well as holes, raw edges...

The thick of it - the knits, nice and heavy, used for jumpers and trousers, as well as a series of jackets and coats. All done with those same specific details and with a knit that is being treated just like regular fabric. Other types of cloth are receiving the VIP treatment, including velvets, leathers, denim...

A few trademark garments punctuate the collection. the obligatory waiscoat, the riding trousers... Now best worn with big old worker boots... 2011 style.

Pyrotechnics in fashion- start 2012 with a bang

Fireworks are mesmerising. The ooos and ahhs when the sky lights up with delicate, ephemeral shapes, sparkly lights and the contrasting loud bangs inspire and awe the spectators regardless of their culture.
