MODERN TAILORING

Fall 2010 is all about the tailoring, and a feminine take on the classic masculine shape: single or double-breasted for a fitted silhouette, further enhanced by lace dresses and straight-leg trousers, in flannel or pinstriped.
LADYLIKE CHIC

Skirts are going A-line in true 60s fashion - think Belle de Jour revisited à la 2010. One can work the look in tweed, plaids and checks for a little false innocence or in smooth leather for a clean, modern appeal.
THE POWER OF NEUTRALS

A key colour palette in all the leading fashion capitals this season, nudes and greys are setting the tone for next fall. Neutrals are the shade of choice for outerwear, tailored pieces and feminine dresses. Grey is the new black, whether for knits or dresses; the key is femininity as grey is coming out of the shadows and into the fashion spotlight.
SENSUAL IN LACE

Forget dainty, this is all about sensuality. An ongoing trend after this summer's stylish comeback, lace provides a pleasing contrast to the more severe wools dominating next season. The key to an up-to-date look with is mixing and matching; next season's lace is all about contrasts, may it be texture (when crochet meets Chantilly) or colour thanks to the undergarment.
CLASSIC TWEEDS

Tweeds are a strong fabric statement on the catwalks of Paris and Milan. Classic they aren't as they depart from the librarian's wardrobe to live happily ever after alongside polka dots, leopard print and lace.
STRONG REDS

Red, possibly with a hint of orange, is becoming a key colour highlight, bringing the right touch of drama to neutral tones, from nude to camel. For yet more depth pair with greys and blacks to reveal its darker side.
PUSSY BOWS AND NECKTIES

One might think this marks the comeback of the demure look what with pussy bows being added to dresses and blouses, but then should one take into account that Belle de Jour was one of the key inspirations behind the look (as seen at D&G)... well it might just take an altogether new meaning...
BLOOMS FOR FALL

Why should florals be a strictly springtime affair? Giving the winter look a soft, feminine touch florals are getting bold and interesting as designers play with scale and variety. There is more than a little air of drama abput them, may it be at Dolce & Gabbana with the Sicilian tapestry-inspired floral blacks or at Marni with black and white floral furs.
VENUS IN FURS

Some may like it, others much less so but furs are the ultimate winter staple, season after season.
SEXY IN LEOPARD

To keep the roaring going then leopard is a muh safer and animal-friendly option though it is getting something of a makeover as it meets polka dots and tweeds.
ALPINE CHIC

From Fair Isle elegance to lumberjack chic: give your wardrobe a break from everything delicate and feminine with a hint of manly casuals. After all being a proper lady is fpriceless; but sometimes all you want is to buy a little piece of that masculine insouciance...
