The First Days of Radio

Posted Feb 8, 2011

Milan does have an underground scene or so it appears to be flourishing thanks to initiatives such as Radio - an audio, video and editorial project, as well as the connected dirty-rough experiments that rotate around the city.

It's often rather difficult to look through something you admittedly accepted a certain way and cannot go beyond its reflection. To analyze is in per se an occupation that evolves over time, without even realizing it we are "involved" and actively participate not only in the watching but also in the making. To live in Milan is certainly similar, at times you refuse to participate, you arrogantly feel uninvolved, according to your mood you deliberately decide to either plunge in or dismiss yourself from the urban cosmos. You prefer to spend your days wishing you were in Malpensa airport - a place that promises to take you somewhere where culture is more available. Underline the word available, and underline the word mood.

If your mood is the primary culprit, you are indeed more in tune with Milan than you might think. You are as unavailable as the resources you are craving. However, if you accept your condition and breathe its mysterious polluted oxygen, you may find an outlet to your brain.

Very soon, RADIO (locate, tune, amplify) will organize private screenings - everything is kept very secretive, but we cannot wait to be there to report. In terms of "underground", we do feel Milan has offered through the centuries a certain capacity to hide the most delightful intellectual gatherings, the Austrian air has waltzed through the yellow stones of the city for quite a long period only touched by the gourmandise of the French.

What is RADIO? It's an indefinite space that allows "in" projects that follow a chosen theme but change form within thanks to the work of guest owners - two-month leaders of the expositive area, curators investigating arguments and letting in the mist-shrouded Milanese to explore.

While we are waiting for the next argument Marco Klefisch and his team decide to kick start and research during the next months, we are still under the effect of the last one that is about to drop its last rust: "Pornografia", guest owner Alberto Guerrini, a research on Pornography's semiological expression, visual exploration, anthropological connotations. We left contaminated - and the ideas permeated in us for quite a time - almost recurrently trapping time in its century parcel - Saturday February 12th, one of the mist-shrouded guests, Michele Capozzi, the author of the documentary Pornology New York, will give a private screening in a deserted urban spot with very few guests - yet the event is open to the public. The effects of Milan, and the chandelier atmosphere of coal melted streets leading to the most animated intellectual effects - a chain that links solidly man to man in a city in which these links are mostly hidden.
