Hotel Grims Grenka in Oslo, Norway, blurs the lines.

Posted Jun 24, 2011

Embracing natural light, modernity and tradition, the Hotel Grims Grenka has created a sensual and luxurious atmosphere in the heart of Olso that softens the lines of life.

Designed and realised by Kristin Jarmund Architects, the hotel combines light, natural materials such as wood and stone with glass and painted surfaces to creating a tactile sense of freedom. They want to blur the lines of life and create a sense of rounded comfort throughout the hotel.

To wake the senses within this peaceful abode there are signiatures of colour provided by folk art, light provided from reindeer antler made lamps and the reception desk tempts you to touch it with its moss garden suface.

The panelling featured throught the lobby is inspired by the ancient Norwegian log houses but updated and kept chic and modern through the use of embedded lighting and niches carved for the use of seating and bars keeping the concept of tactile materials throughout.

The rooms are kept different and surprising through the use of lighting to create a sense of zoning and a close connection with the Seasons, which is then carried through into a separation of the rooms through seasonal colours. Those used for Summer us natural ok and green tones, and the Winter rooms are grey, blue and white combined  with a darker, warmer oak. These are furished with both Nordic and European designers and also feature custom-made writing deks, benches and night shelves.

There is also a Nordic cuisine restuarant and a rooftop lounge for those blue skies and romantic moments but then again, Oslo have a lot to offer and the Opera house’s architecture is just too tempting to miss, but I understand if you just want to immerse yourself in this hotel's sense of peace and never leave.
