Where have all the artists gone?

Posted Oct 31, 2008

A: BERLIN. It's time to buy art where artists actually live.

Berlin’s 13th Art Forum - Annual International Fair for Contemporary Art is scheduled from the end of October (October 31st – Nov 3rd) and is definitely worth the flight, if like us you you’ve hit London’s Frieze art fair one too many times and Miami's Art Basel is too distant a prospect for your art-fix.

Berlin, as we all know is a scene in itself – we’ve all been there, and bought the apartment. If like us you always intend to go for the art but somehow the clubs get in the way, the art fair will ensure this time there are really no excuses for one’s lack of culture.

With the city dedicated to a-r-t in a big way, an impressive set of exhibitions will support the fair. The state museums will showcase a series entitled "The Cult Of The Artist" that will include Andy Warhol and Joseph Beuys at Rieck Halls, Jeff Koons at the Foyer of Neue Nationalgalerie, and an Annish Kapoor presentation at the Deutsche Guggenheim.

In addition to this, there will also be a "Month Of Photography", a series of shows at Berlin’s most important venues that will ensure you know your way out of the shopping district and be able to name-drop like a local. This year’s special exhibition during the fair will be “Difference, what difference?” If the phrase rings a bell in your vernacular, perhaps a weekend away could be what you are looking for.

P.S - we know we promised it would be a weekend of just culture but... if you happen to feel a little faint after all that art, check out the wonderfully chic "Departmentstore Quartier 206". A haven of fashion, music, design and fashion (and a sprinkling of Dolce&Gabbana).
