The Sumo grand tour 2009

Posted Dec 29, 2008

We have the advance tickets sale dates for the new 2009 tour. The perfect post-Christmas spectator sport

If you're bored with the usual round of racing, sailing and Formula One, try a new spectator sport - Sumo.

Advance tickets for the first tournament of the 2009 Grand Sumo Tour Schedule are on sale now . The opening match starts on January 11th 2009 and runs until January 25th at the Kokugikan, in Tokyo.

The prestigious, Grand Tour consists of six separate events throughout Japan - three at The Sumo Hall (or Ryōgoku Kokugikan) in Ryōgoku, Tokyo (January, May, and September), and one event in Osaka (March), Nagoya (July) and Fukuoka (November). Each wrestler in the top two divisions (sekitori) has one match per day, while the lower ranked rikishi compete in seven bouts, approximately one every two days.

If you are still in the mood for food after the holidays - no trip to the Sumo is complete without a "yakitori" fix or barbecued chicken on a stick.
