Two shots of Istanbul

Posted Jul 20, 2010

Everybody is talking about Istanbul, the European capital of culture for 2010, our point is to give you few pointers no one else can from an insider source…

A bit from the past a bit from the future, up to this point nothing is new. If there are two things you should do in the Asian-European city beside the obvious (please read a travel guide for that), you should experience what the past is and looks like and same for the future.

The past: Maiden’s Tower
Usually people look at it from the shore and they don’t have the slightest idea that you can actually have a party or go there for dinner. There is something mystical in the small islet probably coming from the legends that are tied to it. A lighthouse but also according to the most popular Turkish legend, the home of a sultan’s daughter when the prophecy an oracle made that she would be killed by a venomous snake on her 18th birthday forced her father to keep her away from the land. Travel by sea on a small boat crossing the Bosphorus, and get transported.

The future: 360 Istanbul
One of the hottest restaurants in town, towering on top of the city at exactly 360°. The future is not made of long walks under the heated sun: you can actually see the whole of Istanbul sitting at a bar or dining at the super design restaurant. Floor to ceiling glass-windows or the alluring terrace. How to be on top of the game. Leave the streets to the others.
