Dasha Zhukova opens CCC in Moscow
The name, "The Garage" doesn’t exactly conjure up images of Moscow and modern art, but then again we are not certain exactly what does.
The space, a former bus garage dating from 1927, and originally designed by the Constructivist architect Konstantin Melnikov is set to be transformed into a huge gallery for contemporary art and culture. The project is the brainchild of Daris ‘Dasha’ Zhukova, twenty-six who is also a fashion designer and the partner of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, a curator who has worked with the Gagosian Gallery is coordinating the project.
Opening on September 17th, the gallery’s first show in its 85,000 square foot space will be dedicated to Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Russian artists, who will stage their first exhibition in their native city.
The CCC Moscow space had its first blast of publicity in the form of Amy Winehouse who literally left rehab for the inaugural dinner along with three hundred of the world’s art lovers and VIPs. www.arteconomy24.ilsole24ore.com. Perhaps art can save our beloved Amy?
