Tweet a London cab

Posted Jul 6, 2009

Our personal mark of civilisation is the exact time if takes to get a taxi in a city at any given time. Although Manhattan is easy(ish), Milan possible with patience, and Paris perfectly fine except during fashion weeks, London may take the crown for the ability to now tweet a cab.

Tweet A London Cab is a new service that aims to connect those in need of a cab with drivers. The cabbie twitterers are aa small collective of licensed London taxi drivers who when using Twitter as a means of keeping in touch while they work, came up with the idea to harness the power of Twitter to launch @tweetalondoncab.

Those in need of a cab can tweet the collective, who then respond with an estimated pick-up time and registration details of the vehicle en-route.

The group is fairly small at the moment in order to quite literally test drive the project. Taxi aficionado Stephen Fry has already tweeted the group to show his support, and we have a feeling it won't take long before the phrase 'hailing a cab' is replaced with 'tweeting a cab'.
