The mile high heat

Posted Jan 6, 2009

Forget apres-ski, the new trend is pre-ski with the world's first sauna in a ski lift. Now you can enjoy a little nakedness before you get on the piste.

The world's first new Gondola lift, Ylläs1 is Finland’s biggest ski lift investment and covers a distance of just over 2 kilometres in only 7 minutes, with the added advantage of being able to enjoy fabulous scenery with a sauna in it's sauna gondola.

If you're looking for someone more unique to ski - Ylläs, in Finland has had a skiing tradition dating back to 1930’s. Set in the Pallas-Ylläs National Park the area consists of seven fells and two original Lappish villages. At 718m, Ylläs is one of the highest fells in Lapland.

If you're afraid of heights and would rather keep nakedness within the privacy of your own house - perhaps it's time to invest in sauna. Finnish company Lumilaude specialises in the traditional art of Finnish saunas with a chic twist. Click on for some heated inspiration.
