The highest lux in the world

Posted Apr 17, 2009

Lux having to wait. How sad? As Tangula, the Chinese luxury rail operator explains, sometimes good things come to those that wait. Check out the China's new luxury train that's ready to let off steam.

According to Tangula, despite their new luxury train being ready to leave its station back in July 2007 as access to Tibet was limited by the Chinese Government during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, they had to delay their launch. Anyway now we've got it - the experience is being touted as one of the most exclusive to date. Whether we believe the fact or not, what is certain however is that the rails this luxury train will travel on are the highest in the world - reaching peaks of over 5000 metres.

The train has two routes, the northern one, Beijing-Lhasa (Tibet) and, the southern one, Beijing-Lijiang. Travelling within a country the size of China is of course both a humbling and unforgettable experience - plateaus, forests, rivers, small villages, and unique cultures, in fact the big question mark really is the train. The “Luxury Train”.

Those of you who’ve already visited Tibet and China will understand immediately the vast distances involved in such a trip and how it all very fast becomes uncomfortable. Onboard this train however – travelling intends to become a different ride altogether. Firstly you can move.

Inside the train’s accessorized suites are double beds, wi-fi, bathrooms with showers, embedded bars, wardrobes, flat screen TVs, entertainment systems, room service (our fave), and air-con, basically all the other comforts of a five-star hotel that ensure your can have your culture fix and eat it.

The train is not as pressurized as a plane, but it does incorporate an oxygen system to allow passengers to stay comfortable even at the highest altitudes (the maximum is 5.072 metres). The system works by checking the availability of air in the train and releasing oxygen to preserve the right balance.

Tangula offers two different trip options for each route: a three night journey for two people in double accommodation costs US $ 7.500 for the Southern Route and US $ 8.250 for the Northern Route. For more options click here www.tangulaluxurytrains.com

From April 2009 - a spa carriage will also be added - allowing you to spa in transit.
