The Spanish space odyssey

Posted Sep 7, 2009

Hotel Aire de Bardenas in Navarre, Spain is located alongside alongside the Bardenas Reales National Park and Biosphere Reserve in Tudela, Spain. That's however where the naturalness ends. We take a peek inside the concrete walls.

If it's chintz, rustic or a charming setting you're after - this will hotel is unlikely to be your cup of tea. Barcelona architects Emiliano Lopez and Mónica Rivera have created the Hotel Aire de Bardenas, to look as if prefabs have falled down from space and landed in a circle in the Spanish desert (in a good way of course).

A four star hotel with 22 rooms including four deluxe suites, the rooms are designed around their windows, which provide otherworldly views of the adjoining wheat fields and the wind-scoured rocks. Possibly the most comfortable spaces in the rooms, the windows are decked out with mini-mattresses and lounge pillows.

Despite the hotel's unconventional and modern appearance, its restaurant serves innovative yet wholesome cuisine from a local vegetable source, Tudela and aslo has it's own garden proving fresh ingredients and authentic dishes.

Set at the edge of a desert in the Tudela, the local area is a biosphere reserve and along with stunning landscapes offers outdoor activities, a wine route (wineries include Chivite, Príncipe de Viana, Guelbenzu, Malón de Echaide), as well as from July 24th to 30th, the "running of the bulls", the second “fiestas” of Navarre after San Fermin in Pamplona.
