Surfing Venice-style
With a high water level, Venetian hoteliers have found a sense of humour - water tours with free wellies. According to the official Venetian tourist site, Venetian hoteliers are reassuring tourists that want to come in Venice - with the sentence, "Don't worry, there is no danger: high water is a phenomenon that quickly disappear."
Phew - we're glad they sorted that out for us.
We do however admire their positive spirit - turning rubbish weather into positivity (or commercial gain?) - offering special tours that work with the weather and not against it (the-future-of-tourism-dear-readers, think skiing in Mexico and olive picking in England).
Our heads were also turned by another beam of postivity in the form of surfer Duncan Zuur and his team who, in the midst of the high water levels decided to try a little wakeboarding in Venice's iconic St. Mark's Square. Using a twenty horsepower motor winch and placing it under the square's arches the team the team took the opportunity to do a little wakeboarding infront of a group of astounded tourists.
The slightly scary point of the story? The police didn't even notice...
