Puppies to join tweet feeds

Posted Jan 29, 2010

For dog lovers, the mere idea of being apart from their precious canine counterpart can be daunting; the constant wondering of what they’re up to can be worrisome. Mattel offers up a new way to bring the worrying to a stand still.

Mattel has introduced a new device, Puppy Tweets, in which dog owners can attach to their puppy’s collar and in turn follow their canine’s every move…on their Twitter profile (created with the help of the owner of course). Puppy Tweets works in such a way where the collar acts as both a sound and motion detector, tracking your pup’s every movement. These recorded movements are then attached to pre-programmed tweets.

Puppy Tweets share some possible tweets that we can expect:

If he's barking up a storm at the mailman, for example, the gadget will automatically post a tweet saying, "YAHOOOOOOO! Somedays you just gotta get your bark on."

When your pet is sleeping, the tweet may read, “Somedays it feels like my paw is permanently on the snooze button!” else, if it is making a ruckus, the tweet will say, “YAHOOOOOOO!”

Director of marketing Susan Russo told CNN that the product "capitalizes on two popular trends - the use of social media and real time communication, as well as peoples' extreme love for their dogs." Puppy Tweets is scheduled to debut this February in New York.

There are a few celeb puppies we at Swide wouldn’t mind following. Like, newest addition to the Gabbana family, Toto. Could we expect Toto to have a successful Twitter following like his owner, Stefano Gabbana?
