Nika Zupanc's outrageous designs

Posted May 19, 2009

Nika Zupanc, a young designer from Lubiana (Slovenia), starts from feminine archetypes transforming the daily life into something more luxurious, elegant and provocative. The result is a sexy series of objects that showcase a new form of "fetish chic".

Describing her work as, “minimal design upgraded with hormones and sinful decisions” we think its simply the perfect combination of a little bit of naughtiness with inspired design. Revelling in making ordinary life disturbing - Swide takes a peek.

The Maid Chair - a celebration of the feminine body, with edges adorned by S&M inspired laces creating a chair with a hot “60-90-60” shape.

Showcased for the first time at the 2009 Salone Del Mobile in Milan, Nika Zupanc exhibited her fearless, unexpected and unprecedented design (exclusively for Gorenje). What looks like a huge portable make-up mirror is actually an electric cooking plate entitled "Mrs Dalloway".

“Unfaithful” is a royal perverted feather duster.

On Nika’s website is also a 'nursery room' which houses a nostalgic reinterpretation of childhood classic objects such as the cradle. Classic design made using polycarbonate (or leather) create stylish and outrageous pieces that mixes childhood with fetish.

Nika is not afraid of being politically uncorrect. Her dolls collection is introduced through a short story that explains,

“My grandfather believed that his abundant moustaches could frighten young ladies. So he approached my grandmother, young and unmarried girl in her twenties, with a special gift that should compensate his frightful feat.
He brought her a doll
”.

A doll that Nika Zupanc re-created from translucent polycarbonate complete with red sacred heart (desecrate!). Metal needles are added to a voodoo version (ritual instincts have never been so glamourous) and for the extra-disturbed there is a horizontal lucid hard black polycarbonate doll.
