Hungry: A model story of appetite & ambition
An inspiring and cautionary tale for women of all ages, Hungry is an uplifting memoir with a universal message about body image, beauty and self-confidence.
Unable to get work when she slimmed to industry pressures, Crystal decided to bring her curves back and thus with it the start of an international modelling career.
Crystal was only 14 years old when she was handed to her by a model scout and first saw a photograph of supermodel Gisele in Vogue taken by the photographer Steven Meisel. Mesmerized by the image Crystal constructed a new idea of female perfection, and despite weighing sixty pounds more than Gisele - began her mission to emulate Gisele which rather than take her on the catwalk lead her to an eating disorder.
After eventually making the sensible choice to stop starving, ironcially her career took off. Crystal has since gone on to shoot five international editions of Vogue, been featured on the cover of the international editions of Harper's Bazaar and Elle, starred in Dolce & Gabbana's ad campaign and worked the runway as the final model in a Jean Paul Gaultier's show, and naturally, appeared on Oprah.
Hungry is published by Simon & Schuster.
