Go to bed and wake up as royalty

Posted Oct 28, 2008

How a modern woman can become a princess simply by buying a bed.

How else to prove your princess-like status to your amore than by installing a "principessa" day bed in your living room?

This beautiful daybed from the British design duo Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien consists of seventeen thin mattress layers in gypsy colours, that references the Hans Christian Anderson tale of the "Princess and the Pea".

We trust you all know what we're talking about when we mention the princess and the pea but for those of without a childhood - the tale tells a story of a prince searching for his princess. In order to determine if the lady in question was really a princess, he hid a pea under twenty mattresses. When she awoke in the morning she declared she had slept badly thereby proving she was delicate enough to be a real princess (although we're not sure she'd be cut out to be a modern day princess with such a gentle demeanour).

The British designers - Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien's are currently exhibiting an installation of their work on New York's Greene Street (number 146) entitled "Myth and Material" that includes the fairytale daybed. The installation that runs until November 17th explores and describes the influence that Indian culture has on their designs and looks at the many aspects of India's multilayered modern culture and emphasises, in a very natural way.

If you're in the area - walk on by. We love a happy ending.
