Fear and waking in Sleepville

Posted Sep 14, 2008

Ensure being late is a thing of the past with an alarm clock that’s cruel to be kind.

If there is one thing guaranteed to wake you up in the morning, it’s fear. We are not suggesting it’s the nicest way to rise and shine, but if alighting from a warm bed continues to cause you problems the following invention will ensure you leap out of bed (although not necessarily in the best way).

From designer Alice Wang, a graduate of the famed and very hip Central St. Martin’s College is the Tyrant alarm clock. The machine uses technology in one of the most twisted manners we’ve heard by stealing your mobile phone and randomly shuffling through your contact list. It then calls someone from your phonebook (!) every three minutes after the desired wake up time - a bit like drunken dialing – only a lot worse. If you have an ex’s number hidden way, think twice before owning one of these.

Also designed by Alice is the less sadistic but as unique, Perfect Sleep alarm clock. Rather than setting it for the time you need to get up – set it for the time you want to sleep. Beauty sleep that you can programme – just don’t forget about the day job.
