A luxury beach house that avoids the usual sea shell cliches

With summer over we're already planning our Christmas retreat. The irritating problem with this however is the continual "none availability" message when we enter check-in anytime in December. Exhausted by booking a Christmas trip in April (or as we're finding last minute in October) we’ve found a beach front property that we intend to be in by Christmas and stay that way.

Currently on the market through Sotheby’s property site is a luxurious property with sea views in California that ticks all the boxes for a lasting luxury retreat without being full of sea shells and stripy curtains. Priced at € 24.082.500 EUR (37,500,000 USD), the property has been renovated and comes complete with its own guesthouse.

Entry to this sophisticated awe inspiring 5900+ sq ft home is from a long gated driveway lined with eucalyptus trees alongside a new clay floodlit tennis court. An element of surprise (that appears to draw inspiration from Japan) is provided by the brilliant red of the front door, in itself, the first piece of art in this gallery of architectural fantasy. The breathtaking oceanfront and glass walls keep the property modern, whilst comfort, privacy, and a serene sense of luxury are provided for by an open-floor plan.

On the ground floor there are three bedrooms plus an expansive open plan space housing a living, dining and kitchen space that overlook the beach. Upstairs is a sublime master suite complete with an office (meaning you can extend your holiday by that extra month if needs be), bedroom, and bathroom all with the requisite views. Friends are welcome too, a detached 800+ sq ft guest house sleeps eight and overlooks the tennis court.

The Christmas tree will look perfect by the hot-tub.
