Digging the new look!

Posted Dec 11, 2009

In the cut-throat world of social media Digg may have come across as the less attractive older brother but after a clever makeover it is getting us excited again. Well as excited as we can get about something that isn't a shoe...

A fifth birthday in social media years (undeniably much shorter than dog years) is quite a big deal but rather than drinking to forget Digg chose to go the classier routeby having an age-appropriate albeit exciting rejuvenating makeover. Courtesy of Digg Labs it now comes in an array of shapes and colours, all with the right amount of innovation (meaning it might take us a few seconds to figure it out but shall thus keep us interested) and usefulness as it digs further for some of the older stories. Digg 365 does just that: it presents you with the "most dugg" items for a certain day, month or year (which is how we remembered it had only been a short year of lusting after President Obama... in our imaginary lives we'd already ran off with him, married and divorced him).

Also catching our attention was Digg Swarm, seen by some as the more lyrical Digg: dugg stories gain visibility as they grow in size and so do the diggers; beware of the obese diggers who might just click on everything without ever reading (yes, even social media is sizeist nowadays).

Digg Pics for the more visually stimulated: a pretty mosaic of all the images submitted to the site. We're already predicting the rise of the Digg artist who will "draw" pictures out of cleverly arranged thumbnails... Wasting time on social media websites has gotten creative!
