Destination Uzbekistan

Posted Jun 8, 2009

When upcoming photographer Hassan Havier contacted us with his exclusive images from Khiva, Swide knew we'd (finally) found a new travel destination to rival even the most avid Wallpaper reader.

Also called an "open air museum" Khiva is more than 2500 years old with a population of around 40 000 people. Located in Central Asia, Khiva is situated on the left bank of the Amu-Darya in the southern part of Uzbekistan.

Completely preserved in the cultural style of the region, the "Ichan-kala" part of Khiva has been recognized by UNESCO as an historical monument of world significance.
