An Istanbul affair
Istanbul will always have a place in our hearts for a unique long weekend - but the affirmation that the high priestess of fashion, Coco Chanel once ran off to Istanbul with her lover makes it even more appealing.

The rumours are - scenes from the new forthcoming film entitled Coco Before Chanel, starring French actress Audrey Tautou, and which tells the story of Coco's life in Paris before she became the famous fashion designer are set in Istanbul.

We're in doubt doubt that the moment the film premieres, the fashion pack will be on the first plane when the film is released later this year. We told you here first. Take a peek at a clip from the film now (currently only available in French).
Not content with being a love destination for a fashion muse - Istanbul will also be home to the first Edition Hotel, the new luxury hotel collection spawned by Bill Marriott and Ian Schrager. South Beach Miami, DC, Honolulu are all set to follow - but Istanbul is said to the first opening in this ambitious plan of seven-star hotels.
It's said that visitors to Istanbul will have the chance to view the most spectacular ocean views on the planet on what was formerly a tobacco factory. There will be exhibition halls, and restaurants, and all rooms will be sea facing.

If it's a soundtrack to your trip you're after - check Beware of the Blog which recommends original Turkish vinyl (amazing record art) for the kitsch holiday music and the perfect nonsense to while away the hours against Istanbul's new futuristic backdrop.
