A desert canvas - a photographer's Namibia
If it's a photographer's paradise you're searching for head to Namibia's red sand dunes and the surrounding Skeleton Coast for picture pretty scenery with luxury tour operator Abercrombie & Kent.
Abercrombie & Kent's latest safari offering suggests not only a breathtaking African adventure but a trip to Namibia's stunning coastline but where you can practise your landcsape photography, the search for the elusive desert elephant (think action shots), a visit the AfriCat foundation for an up-close photographic opportunity with some of Africa's big cats and finally another world famous lanscape photographic opportunity - the view of the Twyfelfontein rock petroglyphs in Damaraland.

The safari is unique in that it offers an itinerary suited to not only the best time of day to visit these unique spots - but also the best times to shoot the places you visit.
A suggested itinerary begins with a flight to Johannesburg, where you connect to Windhoek and the Little Kulala Lodge in the heart of the Namib Desert - the backdrop to the vast open plains of Namibia's wilderness. Visit the dunes on an early morning guided game drive and a spotlit night drive for a different perspective.
The itinerary recommends sunrise as the best time to view Sossusvlei; the colors are vibrant and constantly changing, allowing wonderful photographic opportunities. If weather permits, they suggest a hot air balloon safari.
Namibia's Skeleton Coast beckons the photographer with sweeping sand dunes and pastel colored plains, towering canyons and salt pans, seal colonies and shipwrecks. Arrive via a flight from Swakopmund. On game drives, look for the variety of game that lives in this wild, desolate area. In addition, visit authentic settlements of the Himba, a local nomadic people.

Early morning mists, generated by the icy Atlantic and the warm landmass along the Skeleton Coast, drift inland along the Huab River line. Fly from the Skeleton Coast to a very different area of Namibia in the Huab River Valley, where endangered desert elephants call home. Search for them on game drives or walks. The trip also includes the possibility to view the Twyfelfontein petroglyphs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Next on the trip's agenda is a flight to to Otjiwarongo, the home of Okonjima and the AfriCat Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to long-term conservation of Namibia's large carnivores, especially cheetah and leopard.
Tour Director Gavin can show you how best to photograph these magnificent beasts. Visitors can also participate in the radio-tracking of the first rehabilitated cheetah on the Cheetah Tracking Trail and as the sun sets, visitors are transported to a hide for a fantastic photographic opportunity with the leopard.
